The film is written by musician Boots Riley, who’s also making his directorial debut. It features a breakout performance by Lakeith Stanfield (he of Atlanta fame) as Cassius Green, a down-on-his-luck telemarketer in Oakland who finds financial success by using his “white voice” (which comes from David Cross). That newfound success comes at a cost, however, as Green grapples with a string of ethical dilemmas and twists in his personal life. Sorry to Bother You also stars Tessa Thompson, Terry Crews, Danny Glover, Armie Hammer, and Steven Yeun. As J.R. Kinnard at the Seattle Times writes: “It works fine as an outrageous comedy, but the perceptive commentary will likely give it staying power. This is the fearless satire that America desperately needs right now.” Rotten Tomatoes critics assign Sorry to Bother You a 95 percent fresh score, but it garners a much lower 65 percent audience score. Over the past seven days, #SorryToBotherYou has a 73 percent positive score on Twitter. –Alex Shultz
