Split is one of the better M. Night Shyamalan movies I have seen
M. Night Shyamalan is hit or miss with me. I really liked The Sixth Sense, and Signs was pretty good too. Yet I really didn’t enjoy The Visit. So when I heard about Split I was unsure about it. But I decided to give this new film a chance. I was able to see this film last week and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Split here:
Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all of the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey, Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him — as well as everyone around him — as the walls between his compartments shatter.
I was pleasantly surprised by Split. Even though the film starts slow, once it gets going it grabs the audience and never lets go. There is drama, plenty of suspense and a few psychological elements that together make a pretty good movie. James Mc Avoy shines in this film. He really gets to spread his wings as an actor here and really challenge himself. He plays multiple roles and no two are alike. Definitely one of his best performances to date. Split gets 7/10. Fans of his previous films are going to love this one. It is full of mystery around the main character, and throws some interesting surprises towards the end. This film is not perfect but the flaws it has are minor at best. Overall this is one of the better films M. Night Shyamalan has made in a long time.
