Star Fox Zero brings the team together again to stop Andross’s new diabolical plans

Nintendo has a good number of games that have been out since nearly the beginning. Some of these hits are Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Star Fox. The original game was a hit on Super Nintendo and when Star Fox 64 came out many years later fans loved everything about it. Star Fox: Dinosaur Planet came out next but it was a huge failure and was missing all the things that made the past games great. Star Fox: Assault was the next chapter in the series, it was an okay game but again it didn’t do that well and only some fans enjoyed it. A few years ago they re-released Star Fox 64 on the Nintendo 3DS and it gave older fans a chance to play it again and it also introduced newer players to this awesome game. Star Fox Zero is coming out at the end of April and I was able to play it at WonderCon this last weekend. Here is the good and bad about this game.

Fox, Slippy, Falco and Peppy must save the Lylat System in Star Fox Zero, a new deep space dog fighting adventure. When players use the Wii U GamePad controller and the TV together this creates a  unique interface that allows them to experience the game in two different viewpoints, within the Arwing where they can fight and shoot enemies while they are flying in another. They can pilot the Arwing and traverse on the ground with its new walker transformation, explore interplanetary terrain with the Landmaster Tank that has a new limited flight form and the new Gyrowing which is a drone like plane. The game also comes with a new all range mode and will take players to exotic, amazing and dangerous worlds to stop the most dangerous threat the Lylat System has ever seen. As they progress through the game they can replay the same world with other vehicles and extra missions can be selected on top of going through the story.

Star Fox Zero takes a bit of getting used to. The Wii U GamePad controller is used in an interesting fashion here but once you get the hang of it you will be impressed. The graphics are beautiful and it will take many fans back to the great games of years gone by. It is easier to track on to enemies with the motion controls, and each world has a ton of enemies to destroy. Many of the levels are broken into sections, when one is finished you get to move on to the next one. There is also the option with some planets to take a harder path full of not only tougher baddies but bosses that will take everything the team has to stop them in one piece. I loved this game and was ecstatic to get to play it. It was not easy and yet it was a ton of fun.

If you loved Star Fox 64 then you must play this game. If you want are eager to fly and Arwing again then this game will fulfill that wish for you. It is a game that is a lot of fun and is one that no fan should miss out on. Star Fox Zero comes out on the Nintendo Wii U April 22, 2016.
