Sully takes a story from recent headlines and tells it in a powerful way
Biographical films like to tell audiences about something that happened in the past. It is rare for them to deal with an event that took place a few years ago. Yet this is exactly what Sully intends to do. When I heard about this movie I was unsure if I would like it or not. Tom Hanks has a good track record for these kinds of films, although I didn’t like Bridge of Spies that much. I saw Sully last week and here is my opinion of this new film.

On Jan. 15, 2009, Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger (Tom Hanks) tries to make an emergency landing in New York’s Hudson River after US Airways Flight 1549 strikes a flock of geese. Miraculously, all of the 155 passengers and crew survive the harrowing ordeal, and Sullenberger becomes a national hero in the eyes of the public and the media. Despite the accolades, the famed pilot now faces an investigation that threatens to destroy his career and reputation.

I really liked Sully. This is an amazing story that I somehow missed when it happened just 7 years ago. What surprised me most is how this amazing pilot had to try so hard to prove he did the right thing. Honestly it angered me how he had to put so much on the line. He was in danger of losing everything just for taking a chance which ended up saving all of the passengers on this plane. If this isn’t a modern day hero then I have no idea what is.

Tom Hanks plays this role perfectly, it is a perfect fit for him and one of his best roles in years. I loved Aaron Eckhart as Jeff Stiles. He is a great supporting character who always had a good joke to crack when things get too serious. If you want to learn more about Sully check this website out.

Sully has earned 7/10. I loved watching this amazing story unfold right before my eyes. I was impressed by how they portrayed Sully and his experiences with PTSD after this accident took place. It came off as real and didn’t disappear overnight. It wasn’t until near the finale when Sully finally believed he was a hero and that he had done the right thing. Overall this is an amazing film that people need to see this weekend.
