The Infiltrator pits some cops against a drug cartel that they want to bring down
I have enjoyed some films that are based on true stories but they are hit or miss for me. I liked Wolf of Wall Street and Catch Me if you Can but hated Get on Up. The Infiltrator does its best to tell a shocking real story and bring it to the big screen. I was able to see it earlier this week and here is what I thought of it.
Here is the plot for The Infiltrator:
In 1986, federal agent Robert Mazur (Bryan Cranston) goes under cover to infiltrate the trafficking network of Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. Working with fellow agents Kathy Ertz (Diane Kruger) and Emir Abreu (John Leguizamo), Mazur poses as a slick, money-laundering businessman named Bob Musella. Gaining the confidence of Roberto Alcaino (Benjamin Bratt), Escobar’s top lieutenant, Mazur must navigate a vicious criminal underworld where one wrong move could cost him everything.
I liked The Infiltrator yet I had some issues with it. Most of the film moves at a pretty slow pace which severely drags down the narrative sometimes. There were also plenty of scenes that seemed too tame. This is a group of people trying to bring down a powerful drug cartel. There is some violence and shocking scenes but overall it gave too rosy a picture for me to find it believable. Yet the worst thing about The Infiltrator is that it is pretty predictable. When things go wrong it is clear they will get easily fixed and may actually help the cops out. The ending was not bad but to me was a letdown.
Yet the cast is really good and the soundtrack fits the era perfectly. There are some really good scenes that will surprise people and a few moments most viewers will enjoy. I liked the character John Leguizamo played. This is a person who knew how to fit into his role and make him real and genuine. If you want to learn more about The Infiltrator check out this website.
The Infiltrator gets 7/10. I had fun watching this movie even though it had some flaws. The story was pretty interesting and some people will really like how this film tells it. This will not be a movie for young kids with plenty of drug references and some violent moments. Yet those who enjoy crime dramas won’t want to miss seeing this movie.
Fans of Bryan Cranston shouldn’t miss this film, he delivers a pretty good performance here. People in the mood for some good violence should pick this movie. The Infiltrator is out now. You can follow The Infiltrator on Facebook and like the movie on Twitter.
