‘The Zookeepers Wife’ Impressed me with its gripping story
I enjoy watching a drama every now and then. Yet I enjoy them best when they tell me about a moment in history I have never heard about before. The Zookeepers Wife does this in spades. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw it, but I was quite impressed. Here is what I thought of this dramatic movie.

The time is 1939 and the place is Poland, homeland of Antonina Zabinski (Jessica Chastain) and her husband, Dr. Jan Zabinski (Johan Heldenbergh). The Warsaw Zoo flourishes under Jan’s stewardship and Antonina’s care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are forced to report to the Reich’s newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Daniel Bruhl). The Zabinskis covertly begin working with the Resistance and put into action plans to save the lives of hundreds from what has become the Warsaw Ghetto.

I really liked The Zookeepers Wife. It took a dark moment in history and brought it to life in a powerful way. The cast are all wonderful, they all help move the film along in the right direction. There is good drama, strong action and some really touching moments. The film has its predictable moments, but they don’t happen that often. The Zookeepers Wife gets 7/10. It has some hard to watch moments, but that is how war is supposed to be. These people became a beacon of hope for a lot of people when things got really bad, and it was a joy to learn about this story. This movie won’t be for everybody, but I would say it is worth paying to see.
