Three Days To See: A Documentary Kickstarter Worth Backing

Help fund Garrett Zevgetis’s new documentary about seeing beyond blindness.

The life of Helen Keller has been written, rewritten, sanitized, filmed, and strip-mined for inspirational quotations, so it’s a welcome surprise to see something genuinely original and moving derived from some of her work. Garrett Zevgetis’s documentary Three Days To See is based on one of Keller’s lesser-known works, of the same title, and how her ideas tie in to Michelle Smith, a young student at the famous Perkins School for the Blind, as she prepares to transition from the school to the wider world.

The inspirational part of this documentary is how it moves beyond the tired old inspirational-disabled-people clichés to look at how all of us, disabled or not, engage with and think about the world. It’s not about “overcoming” disability or succeeding “in spite of” disability, it’s simply about living with dignity, gratitude, and honor. It’s about engaging with the world with whatever tools you have to do so.
