TMNT Out of the Shadows pits these four brothers against powerful new threats to their beloved city

I am a huge Ninja Turtles fan. I watched the 80’s cartoon religiously as a kid, knew the theme song by heart and loved all of the first live action movies. There have been countless interpretations of these heroes in a half shell since then in the form of comics, TV shows and there was even a short lived live action TV show. When the first new live action film came out in 2014 it was met with mixed reviews, but I loved it. You can read my review here. I have been following TMNT Out of the Shadows closely with reviews of the first and second trailers, and after watching them was intrigued about this upcoming sequel. Yet it also brought a big fear, would this movie fall into the same trap of putting too many bad guys together and end up dragging the film down? I saw TMNT Out of the Shadows and here is what I thought of it.

You can read the plot for TMNT Out of the Shadows here:

“The turtles spring into action to battle Shredder (Brian Tee), mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry), Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams), Rocksteady (Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly) and the notorious Krang (Brad Garrett).”

I really enjoyed TMNT Out of the Shadows. It could have easily been terrible but thankfully this isn’t the case. The cast work together like a well oiled machine and somehow found a way to put all of these villains together but have it all make sense and not have it hurt the film. The soundtrack is just wonderful with so many scenes being amazing thanks to the right song and many times add that spark to make them a blast to watch. I also have to say recasting the Shredder was the right choice, I thoroughly enjoyed each moment he was on screen and how words were not needed to get his way or his point across to his henchmen. I did have some issues with the voice for Krang, it just sounded wrong. It was too low, and was missing that menacing element that makes this character a force to be reckoned with. His portrayal here is too comical and therefore it is hard to take him seriously. The plot was brilliant and was better than any of the trailers let on. Overall TMNT Out of the Shadows is the sequel fans have been wanting to see for a long time and I think it will do great this summer.

TMNT Out of the Shadows gets 8.5/10. It was a sequel that surprised me and turned out to be better than I ever thought possible. It has some minor flaws but has plenty of throwbacks to the original cartoon to appease fans young and old. This is also one of the first movies I have seen in a good while that is worth watching in 3D. There are a ton of ways the movie uses this effect that makes many scenes literally jump off the screen. Overall it is a great sequel and one that the whole family can enjoy together.
