RealClearPolitics shows the lieutenant governor, Democrat Ralph Northam, ahead in the polls by an average of seven points, but Ed Gillespie, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, has launched several new attack ads this past week. They paint Northam as anti-Trump and pro-immigration, and they are resonating on Social, where despite Northam’s lead in the polls, the candidates are neck and neck. Gillespie commands 65 percent positive sentiments, while Northam is at 63 percent positive. Gillespie has said that he expects polls to be as wildly inaccurate as they were in 2014 when he ran against incumbent Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.). Back then most polls put him several points behind, and although he lost, he got within half a point of an upset. According to Fox News, Gillespie is counting on being underestimated again and ultimately victorious. –HugoGuzman
