‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ Tells an interesting story
I have liked some of the films that Luc Besson has made over the years. I am a huge fan of The Fifth Element, so I was looking forward to seeing Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. I was able to see it early and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets here:
In the 28th century, special operatives Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline work together to maintain order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the minister of defense, the duo embarks on a mission to Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis where diverse species gather to share knowledge and culture. When a dark force threatens the peaceful city, Valerian and Laureline must race against time to identify the menace that also jeopardizes the future of the universe.
I had a good time watching Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It is a film full of amazing special effects that takes viewers to fascinating new worlds. What I liked best about this film though was the story it told. Things aren’t clear right away, and takes a while to come into focus. Once it does though I found myself liking this film a bit more. It is a not brand new tale, with elements that audiences have seen in many other movies. It also didn’t need to be in 3D, doesn’t help the film much. Yet overall it was a pretty enjoyable film. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets gets 6.5/ 10. I won’t say it was as good as The Fifth Element, but it still took me on a fun ride. It is hard to say if it will do that well in theaters, but could easily become a cult classic over time. Fans of this director’s previous films are sure to really like this one. Yet if you are not into a lot of special effects then you may want to miss it.
