See this dangerous type of work in action through the eyes of some reporters who helped tell the world about it
In 2002 a cable news producer named Kim Barker (Tina Fey) gets tired of her dead end job at a local station and is offered and opportunity to go to Kabul, Afghanistan to be a war correspondent. She leaves it all behind and is excited but at the same time nervous because she is unaware of what this new position will entail. Once she arrives she finds out things here are very different than her comfortable American lifestyle and that she has stepped into an out of control war zone. Thankfully, she meets Tanya Vanderpoel (Margot Robbie) a fellow journalist who is more than happy to take her under her wing and show her the ropes. As her assignment becomes longer than she ever expected and her life at home falls apart she wonders if she has made the right choice coming here. Amidst all of the militants, warlords and the nighttime partying Barker discovers the key to becoming a successful correspondent.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot was a pretty good movie. The cast is a good fit and really helped make this a fun film for this writer to watch. From the other journalists Iain MacKelpie (Martin Freeman) and Nic (Steve Peacocke), to the rough around the edges Colonel Hollanek (Billy Bob Thornton) and even the sometimes absurd Ali Sadiq (Alfred Molina) together make a group of individuals that not only work well together bu have found a way to tell a tale in a sometimes serious fashion but also are able to throw in some comedic moments to change the tone for a while. Tina Fey is the shining star here and does a great job playing a character that fits her like a glove. The music is wonderful and has songs that many people will know well and no matter how obscure they may seem they fit in every scene they are in. Overall it is a good comedy that most people will be able to enjoy.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot gets 7/10. It was a movie that tells an interesting story about being a reporter in an area where you never know what is going to happen and each day can be full of surprises, and not always positive ones. There is some death, people do get hurt and there are moments when the audience is not sure what is going to happen next. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot paints a pretty good picture of how difficult this job could be and it definitely was not for everyone. There is some good modern history to learn here and it also proves that if you want something bad enough you can never give up no matter how bleak things may look sometimes. This will not necessarily be a movie to take the family to see but it is a good choice to see with your friends. There is some swearing and gory scenes but that is really all to watch out for.
If you like movies that tell a good story then this is the movie you should see. If you are a fan of Tina Fey this is one of her films you won’t want to miss. If you are intrigued by the tale of war correspondents then you should check this movie out. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot comes out this Friday.

What the F*ck – frickin press corps and public affairs do not give any thing more than the glossy propaganda that their agency / NGO pays for. They are a liability, out of touch, Cottled and self important in their pantomime of battle. They ( male and female ) should just stay home and play Call of Duty and report on that, there is probably more truth there, and they won’t endanger actual troops.
