Does fear of appearing weak cause men to give up on peace? Ike Lasater’s ideas can help break this cycle.
About Ike Lasater
Ike Lasater co-founded The Yoga Journal in 1975. For 20 years, Ike was a high-stakes litigation lawyer in the federal and state courts of California. In the legal context, he experienced “mediation” as a process of threatening and cajoling the parties to reach settlement. That changed when he met Marshall Rosenberg, an American psychologist and the creator of Nonviolent Communication. He grew to see that mediation could be a life-affirming way to understand and communicate what was really important between people. NVC’s approach was congruent with his values, developed through long-term practices of Zen meditation, yoga and aikido.
Ike's work has continued to evolve into Mediate Your Life (www.mediateyourlife.com) a training company he cofounded with John Kinyon in 2006. Mediate your Life helps people bring more peace into their relationships. They train participants to navigate and resolve conflicts by developing awareness, presence, and choice in “fight-flight-freeze” moments. With this training they can create more peaceful relationships with themselves and others. Choosing Peace is the first in the Mediate Your Life book series. It is about creating inner peace and from that, creating peace with others. Ike is also the author of Words That Work in Business: A Practical Guide to Effective Communication in the Workplace, (2010.) and What We Say Matters: Practicing Nonviolent Communication.
