In case you missed it, The Good Men Project does not simply write and publish posts for people to read—we are a participatory media company. People can get involved in a variety of ways, and one of our most popular new initiatives are Social Interest Groups—weekly calls designed to grow an activist community and create new leaders in the conversation.
Being an activist can take many forms. It doesn’t mean you have to drop everything and devote your life to a cause. It means being a little more away of social issues, and taking action to help create change and educate others. It is something you can weave right in to the fabric of your life.
And how fun and interesting it is to talk to others who care about the same things you do! You become a part of something much bigger than yourself.
The response to our Social Interest Groups has been overwhelming:
“I received tools and information to create actual change.” — W.C.
“It wasn’t just talk, but movement toward action. I honestly can’t think of a thing I would change. It was moderated well and we actually learned and were given tools to keep learning. This stuff really works! And is empowering and encouraging.” — S.C.
“The #StopRacism Social Interest Group is a great way to learn from others how racism has impacted their lives.” — I.B.
“The toolkit I acquired and the new-found support network were the highlights of my participation. I think everyone could benefit from participation in a group like this.” — A. B.
“I liked the consistent meeting time followed up with very useful information in the Facebook group. A nice chance to find like-minded people with whom I can synergize and work through things.” — D.B.
“I wasn’t an activist yesterday, but I am today.” — E.C.
“I liked hearing from different perspectives and getting solid resources for digging deeper. It’s a useful platform for hearing other people and exploring ideas of interest to me.” — C. D.
“These calls are an amazing and enlightening experience” — J.N.
“I just wanted to say thank you for this group for your impeccable leadership and incredible curriculum…and to my fellow change agents. Thank you and let’s get to work.” — E.L.
“It’s been an honor, a privilege, and a whole bunch of schooling in a very short time. I’m in. I will keep writing, speaking, and building my team, one person at a time, one day at a time. I’m truly grateful and hopeful. In the face of all this fear and hate, I know there is a squad to help me persevere. This is my calling. Thank you all for reminding and encouraging me.” — S.C.

“Here’s the thing about The Good Men Project. We are trying to create big, sweeping, societal changes—–overturn stereotypes, eliminate racism, sexism, homophobia, be a positive force for good for things like education reform and the environment. And we’re also giving individuals the tools they need to make individual change—-with their own relationships, with the way they parent, with their ability to be more conscious, more mindful, and more insightful. For some people, that could get overwhelming. But for those of us here at The Good Men Project, it is not overwhelming. It is simply something we do—–every day. We do it with teamwork, with compassion, with an understanding of systems and how they work, and with shared insights from a diversity of viewpoints.” —– Lisa Hickey, Publisher of The Good Men Project and CEO of Good Men Media Inc.
