Against a grey and desolate urban backdrop, with shaved head and wearing a hoodie, this man’s passion will stun you.

Sonny Green’s rap shakes me out of apathy and frustration every time. When I’m wound up and ground down by day-to-day life, and I feel overwhelmed by the clamour and smog of the city, it reminds me of the beauty that’s all around and inside us.
It’s a reminder that there is more to life than soap operas and 9-to-5. We should care about and for the people who are our neighbours. Instead of prejudice we should bring love to the people around us. And, instead of stewing in front of the TV, we can all play a part in the world’s problems and their solutions, instead of leaving it all to bankrupt political leaders.
And my favourite line?
“Why can’t everyone be obsessed with nature?”
Whether it’s the falcons and foxes which live in our concrete jungles, or it’s the wildernesses beyond the city walls, connecting to nature is the best alternate culture we can engage in. And it’s the best way to unplug from the grind of daily urban life. As someone who loves and needs nature, this video has often been an important reminder to me to get out and spend time in nature, something that can get forgotten or overwhelmed.
Sonny’s rap teaches us that there’s a way to be a man that’s all about passion, determination and dedication, energy, emotion, connection and spirituality.
I met Sonny last year at a protest in London. He rapped, he spoke passionately, and he led hundreds of people straight towards police blockades outside the Houses of Parliament. He’s as passionate and fiery in real life as he is in this video.
