Six new lawsuits, really? Really, gay and lesbian couples? Is this really the way you want to be doing things?
In the span of just a few days, six new lawsuits have popped up around the country. This is in addition to lots and lots of other pre-existing lawsuits — so many we’ve completely lost count at this point. There’s the big one in Utah, sure; and one in Nevada; and AFER’s suit in Virginia; and a couple in Florida; and someone was threatening one in Alaska. Oh and don’t forget about Ohio, and two or three (or four?) in Pennsylvania.
Well, now we have six new ones, including three just in Indiana. Sure is a nice time to be a lawyer.
The good news is that this all should be settling down fairly soon. AFER’s Virginia case is rocketing along on an expedited schedule. And the Utah and Oklahoma cases will get hearings in April (even though the Nevada case just got postponed for unknown reasons).
And there’s also a heartwarming story in Oregon this week: the Young Republicans are totally cool with marriage equality, even though the Old Republicans are not. That’s progress of a sort.
