Finally a Barbie doll that looks like actual women.
Barbie has been a controversial toy for quite some time. Not least of which for her unrealistic and thus unattainable body has so poisoned girl’s understanding of themselves it has garnered it own syndrome —the name sake of media mis-representations of women that leads to body image and eating disorders in young women. Recently, however, an artists decided to create a Barbie doll based on the body measurements from the CDC of an average 19 year old woman. Here is what she looks like compared to her unrealistic sister.

You know what’s also sad? That obesity is on the rise along with heart diseases and diabetes because people refuse to eat healthier, while another portion of the world is dying of starvation or eating TRASH. I honestly think its ridiculous that mothers feels as though they should take their queues from a doll. Barbies, with their enlarged heads and overall anatomically impossible body, should be likened to fantasy like toys such as superhero or villain dolls. Its sickeningly hypocritical that something so obviously impossible is being taken seriously, by only parents mind you, while boys are still allowed to play with hyper masculine playthings and no one thinks anything of it. It’s not just Barbie … look at any women’s magazine and the models on their pages are typically wafer-thin. I’m sure there’s some airbrushing involved, too.
Who is demanding this? Or are we just sitting back and taking it? Most people are reluctant to change, so the status quo in these areas continues without much fuss. Sad.
