The latest version of the popular smartphone isn’t going to send shockwaves through the industry, but most critics agree it builds on an already impressive model with some subtle but necessary changes. For one, the Galaxy S9 relocated its fingerprint unlock button to a different spot on the back of the phone that’s easier for users to reach. There’s also a face-scanning feature now, for those who aren’t spooked by that sort of thing. Samsung improved the 12-megapixel rear camera, though The Verge writes, “The S9 can certainly take great photos in low light, but they aren’t necessarily better than what Google’s Pixel 2 or even the iPhone X can capture most of the time.” Digital assistant Bixby is back and easier to interface with, and the S9 even kept its headphone jack, unlike the iPhone. There are still complaints about the S9’s average battery life, and the phone is not cheap: $720 for the regular version and $840 for the Plus. But the Samsung alternative still has a loyal following, and over the past three days, “Galaxy S9” lights up with an 83 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
