I’ve never met an entrepreneur who didn’t want to have more time in the day, and more days in the week. There is always more to do, and no time to do it in. But in today’s world we have options that can assist us in being more productive – for example the world of digital media and marketing is available to everyone with a very low cost to entry.
What is digital media and how does it help us?
The digital media world consists of audio podcasts, video podcasts, blog posts, and ebooks. Primarily though for this essay I’ll focus on the audio and video podcast. They are the most effective tools you have to reach your global audience of prospective clients, educate them on the most common questions and concerns in your industry and develop a relationship with them before they throw money at you.
Digital marketing is sharing your message with the world through the means of electronic files that are accessible by your audience. The great thing about the current technology at our disposal is how cheap it is get started, and how effective it is.If you have a message to share with the world, and some way of recording your voice, you can reach the world for less than the price of a Starbucks Mocha Grande Latte du jour.
An audio podcast is essentially radio on demand.
It’s a show from 5-180 minutes in length. It may have guests or it may not. It may have experts or not. Every show has their own format, and the host or co-host may be have a regular script for each show or they may make it up as they go along.
There’s another version of a podcast that is a video podcast – essentially regularly scheduled contest which is produced and edited and shared with the public for free. This used to be called television, but when cable came along all that changed.
Both versions of a podcast allow a produced to create content that serves a particular purpose, upload it to the internet, and then make it available on a website or through a podcast application like iTunes, Stitcher or PodCatcher.
From an entrepreneur’s perspective, this is awesome because I can record a show once that deals with all the repetitive questions I am asked, and by answering them online I’m making a friend with a prospective client, but it’s taking no time out of my day to do so. The prospective client learns to know like and trust me, and the whole time, I’m working on other projects or recreation – now that’s empowering!
