But despite all this, the iPhone X has been well-received by Social. Somewhat fragile at 61 percent positive sentiment, Apple’s latest effort is being called “innovative” and compared favorably to the much cheaper iPhone 8. Recently, Social favored Android’s flagship, the Pixel 2, over the 8, but the X seems to beat both phones thanks to some serious hardware, the one place where Google’s phones have had an edge in recent years. That’s because much of the display technology is the same. The Super AMOLED — or active-matrix organic light-emitting diode — was built by Samsung, and calibrated by Apple for its phones. Also, the iPhone’s face-scanning unlocker is similar to previous efforts by Samsung and LG, but Apple’s execution is nearly impossible to trick with photography. Then again, The Guardian pointed out that these developments don’t mean much if the phone cracks so easily. Screen protectors and cases are in high demand, and they seem pretty necessary for a phone that’s nearly a grand. –Hugo Guzman
