Electric scooters were once hailed as the eco-friendly solution to the city’s transportation woes, but on Apr. 16, the San Francisco city attorney issued “cease and desist” orders to LimeBike, Bird, and Spin, the three companies operating scooters. They were declared a nuisance after city authorities impounded 66 of the rentable scooters that were blocking sidewalks and doorways. Other California cities, such as Santa Monica, have taken similar steps, rounding up scooters found blocking pedestrian traffic. Despite the setback, Social remains optimistic about the future of scooters. They get 60 percent positive opinions on 30dB, with many still saying that they will “revolutionize” how people get around. Of course, there is also plenty of talk about the “menace” many city officials say they pose. –Hugo Guzman
