It was only in 2017 when the MPV Toyota Innova moved 61,775 units accounting to 4,282 units more than the previous year. Since then, the sales went down with 2019 registering 52,981. But in the midst of the pandemic, the All-new Toyota Innova was revealed with a new facelift model to woe the Indonesian auto buyers.
But what’s really new in this MPV and will its features attract more buyers? From the exterior to the interior, the new Toyota Kijang Innova as sold by Autofun.co.id reveals major changes, which in our opinion are meant to stamp its authority as the best MPV in Indonesia.
Instead of concentrating on redesigning the exterior and the interior, this Innova is well equipped with new features highlighting the difference between the new and the old models.
221 Toyota Innova Facelift (Exterior and Interior Review)
Even though the overall shape of the 2021 Kijang Innova is still the same, its major change is seen from the front. The large trapezoidal chrome surrounding the sleek LED headlamps and extending to the front brings a new stylish fair likely to attract buyers. Combining the five slated large front grille with the bumper, the front does not only make it more aggressive but makes it look good.
Who doesn’t like the vertically aligned triangular fog lights surrounded by the black housing? The front and rear bumpers are garnished by a black number plate slots.
The new Innova carries the old model’s interior design forward but there are new features giving it a premium feel. While the dashboard gets a 9-inch infotainment unit that gives the MPV a new feeling, the wooden panels at the back of the front seats, middle row, and on the dashboard will definitely influence buyers.
Other interior features likely to woe buyers include an electrically adjustable driver seat, automatic, reversing camera, and in-built air purifier.
The Safety Facelift
Nothing new related to safety was added to the new Kijang Innova. It continues to carry its old Anti-Lock Braking System, Stability control system, superior quality airbags, and speed alert system.
The three contrasting tones (black on the sides and dashboard, silver on the door control locks and dashboard, and the wooden color) gives the interior an elegant and luxurious touch.
The Engine Facelift
Standing on 16-inch alloy wheels, the7-seater Indonesian Innova comes with two engine options: a diesel engine and a petrol engine. The 1TR-FE 4-cylinder petrol engine equipped with Dual VVT-I is lightly less powerful compared to the diesel engine. At maximum, the petrol engine powers 137 horsepower and a torque of 190Nm.
The diesel engine produces 147 horsepower and 190Nm of torque. Sending power to the rear wheels in both engines is either a six-speed automatic gearbox or six-speed manual transmission system.
Conclusion
Comparing the old and the new Toyota Innova Crysta, the facelift given to the 2021 Innova is enough to change its sales curve to an upward direction. The silver garnishing both in the interior and exterior are strategically placed to attract the attention of the buyers. However, it remains a wait and see strategy.
