Zero Tolerance Policies-A Bad Idea?

Want to reduce billions of dollars spent by employees on health-care costs? 74 percent of all illnesses are chronic and stress-related. Workplace abuse is shockingly common and the stressor of all stressors. Start now and change workplace policies and practices to reduce the stressful conditions that create multiple damages and cost-related impacts. When it comes to Zero Tolerance Policy for abusive conduct in organizations, we have very little research data to conclude that this policy achieves the goal.

Two decades of research on schools now emphasize Zero Tolerance Policies are not effective, deter reporting, and model punitive responses. Research encourages non-punishing alternatives such as behavioral training, restorative justice, and flexible responses appropriate to the situation.

When it comes to your workplace, guidelines and core values that emphasize respect, along with a comprehensive approach are the impactful way to integrate positive and healthy practices into your organizational dynamics and culture.
