Breaking up via Social Media is cowardly.

I had a boyfriend for almost five years who broke up with me via a Facebook email—which basically got through to my phone, so I feel its a similar situation to a text message. It was horrific and one of the most disrespectful things anyone has ever done to me.
Not only are you breaking that person’s heart by leaving them but by doing it in such an impersonal and cold manner is like negating everything you ever went through in the relationship. I now had the added pain of questioning everything we ever went through, and believing it must have all been a lie.
For who can love you for so many years, share your bed and secrets, be your closest friend and ally then dismiss you so easily and callously. Not even give you the respect of discussing it to your face.
But I think what is important to remember is in many of these cases, the text message or social media break up isn’t about you—it’s not because you don’t deserve a proper face to face chat, it’s because they are selfish cowards. It’s about them. My ex even admitted in his message that breaking up with me via the message was cowardly.
I actually think it made it worse that he understood this but still did it, he was so concerned with his own wants and needs, which was to not deal with the situation, that he did not care about how much it would damage me to have someone I loved treat me so badly. He even knew the effect but decided to go ahead anyway. I know it’s hard at the time, but anyone who breaks up with you via a message is not good enough for you. It is selfish, childish and cowardly in my opinion and I would not like to inflict such a man upon my future children. So good riddance!
