I wonder if the author would have written such an article if the target were Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh.
I think our politically correct culture tends to draw the line of acceptable comedic attack between straight white males and the rest of humanity. Of course, I understand the reasoning: SWM’s have greater privilege in society, so they can withstand more critique.
But readers of TGMP know better: that just because you’re M (or S or W), that doesn’t mean your life is free of struggles and your feelings don’t matter–not even close. Where we draw the line of acceptability is an important topic.
Perhaps the author would say that even the likes of Rush Limbaugh deserve more human consideration than to be the recipient of such sardonic wit.
I would tend to push the line far more the other way, in favor of comedy for sure, but also in favor of calling out bullshit and accepting reality. Just like insensitivity, oversensitivity has a detrimental effect on the quest for equality

That would certainly explain why people get so caught up in establishing a hierarchy of privilege and go to great lengths to dictate when individual circumstances do and do not matter. But I wouldn’t say that its a strict line but rather a scale. If… Read more »
