Real men show their emotions.

Matthew-thank you for sharing your story. It breaks my heart to hear what’s happened to you and even more when I think of the many men who have dealt with similar abuse. The generational sins must be broken at some point, and it sounds like you are stepping out to be the one who begins the long process of breaking them.
I think another part of this issue is how we define manhood. The old adage “men don’t cry” is stupid. In my book, a real man shows brokenness, fear, hurt, pain, and weakness, as well as strength, character, faith, and whatever else needs to be lumped in there. Toughness is an illusion, a mask we hide behind because we’re too scared to face the ugliness and pain of the past.
