This is great.
My mom wasn’t particularly girly and my dad wasn’t traditionally masculine, as an only child (girl) growing up in the 70s/80s, I didn’t get the same gendered script my peers did.
It took me 35 years to figure out makeup, and I’m still legitimately confused about why I’m supposed to be more flattered by a man’s attraction to my physical attributes than his appreciation of my other skills. It makes me terrible at first dates (but awesome once I’m in a relationship).
It’s a shame that the gender divide seems to be growing wider as hetero women value different things in a man.
I don’t care what he earns, I just want someone who values the mindset and behaviors required to maintain a healthy relationship. But this is often considered “not alpha” and disregarded. Too bad, because what’s hotter and more “manly” than a guy secure enough in himself to put other people first now and then.
