This comment by Paul on the post How to Start an Empathy Revolution
It’s occurred to me that if you think of love and empathy in evolutionary terms, that you might say love is what allows for cooperation at the family and village level, with a hierarchy of devotion. Empathy toward the human race as a whole, then, would be more like an ant colony, or the Borg from Star Trek. Even though I wonder about that, I still think developing empathy is a good thing, as long as we maintain comedy and sex to keep us from becoming robotic.
