Don't let the lack of flying cars or a functioning moonbase fool you, we are living in the early days of the 21st century. Writers and artists have been thinking about this time for close to two centuries now, if not more. Visions of wheels in space and robots and a world united have filled pages and canvases for a long time. And yet, where are the visions of the far future? Where are the images that push and reach for the stars and beyond.
It was probably those questions in mind that Flavia Zúñiga-West put together the 2012 And Beyond: Charting The Future show for the Infinity Art Gallery.
Or as Ms. Zúñiga-West put it:
"I went scifi nerdtastic and curated 2012 and Beyond: Charting the Future at Infinity Art Gallery. The exhibit opens March 15th and will feature 12 artists online connecting to the theme. Right now all the artwork that was submitted is on the site and then I will select three award winners who receive cash prizes and a publication will be on the site the day of."
There is also the more formal way of expressing the goals of 2012 And Beyond on the Infinity Art Gallery's website:
However, actualizing our future can occur in infinite ways, from novels, to conversations to art. 2012 and Beyond: Charting the Future focuses on speculations for the future and exploring worlds, technologies & movements we have yet to create. It approaches science fiction through the lens of speculative fiction, observing technology and environments that evolved from dreams into reality.
2012 And Beyond: Charting The Future, curated by Flavia S. Zúñiga-West, runs from March 15, 2012 to June 1, 2012 online at the Infinity Art Gallery.
