NOTE: The following is the text of the news summary from the Sunday, June 26th It’s Komplicated webcast.
EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES: A new poster showcases the Avengers we’ll see on the silver screen. Six heroes are seen in the poster, most of whom have already had some development in movies that have been filmed, most of whom have already been released …
- Chris Evans as Captain America
- Chris Hemsworth as Thor
- Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man
Plus supporting characters who’ve played roles in earlier movies or are being introduced for this film …
- Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye from Thor
- Scarlett Johanssen as Black Widow from Iron Man 2
- Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (in multiple films)
- Clark Gregg back as Agent Coulson
- Introducing How I Met Your Mother star Colby Smothers as Maria Hill
We’ll see the same Hulk visually, but there’s a new guy under the hood with Mark Ruffalo stepping in after contract disagreements with Ed Norton shuffled him off of the gamma-irradiated stage.
Marvel is banking heavily on in-film continuity saving time with their aggregate project, shortcutting origins in the new movie while introducing the action in a major way at the hand of director Joss Whedon. The question becomes, will we see other Avengers Marvel has discussed bringing to the silver screen?
- Ant-Man?
- Black Panther?
- Luke Cage?
If Marvel wins with this approach, it’ll be another leg up on the “Distinguished Competition” and a huge financial windfall. If they lose big … well, at least Disney has deep pockets, and there’s always merchandising.

HUNGRY BLACK HOLE EATS STARS: The idea of something killing a burning ball of gas millions of miles across seems impossible, but the Swift spacecraft spotted a star that drifted too close to a black hole and found out the hard way that virtually nothing escapes that kind of gravitational pull.

VAMPIRE STARS: There are other dangers for celestial bodies. The Hubble telescope has spotted stars called “blue stragglers” that are hotter, younger and bluer than nearby neighbors — imagine the sexy new girl on the block that makes the old girl next door look grimy. These “blue stragglers” however don’t just take the attention from the stars nearby, but suck the very life from them. Scientists are debating different origins for this phenomenon, but it’s another case of the universe being much more interesting than we originally anticipated.

YOUR DEMISE WILL BE TELEVISED: The Journal Of The American Medical Association did a study that hates America. Sorry, they just said that two hours of TV per day would kill you by …
- increasing risk of heart disease by 15 percent
- increasing risk of type 2 diabetes by 20 percent
- increasing risk of premature death by 13 percent
The real reason for this is, of course because network radiation & reality shows kill you. Kidding, it’s actually from snacking too much and not moving. You can watch your TV, just keep it moving.

PRISONER 57: In “Free Wesley Snipes” news, Wesley Snipes will not be freed. The US Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal of his three year conviction after convicting him for something stupid called … what’s this? “Taxes” or something. Never heard of it. Anyway, so Snipes remains behind bars, either preparing a hilarious new buddy comedy or a gritty new action film.

THE YOUTUBE OF COMICS: Already home to most comics publishers, Graphicly introduced a new HTML5-based technology allowing users to embed comics wherever they go, like YouTube does with video. Anyone can upload comics, but the coverage didn’t discuss how creators can get paid from this enhanced ability to spread the word.
