Whether you remember her from the TV series As If, on an episode of The Shield, as Mahandra McGinty on the cancelled-too-soon series Wonderfalls or in TV movies like America's Most Terrible Things, the role that really helped make her mark on the consciousness of a fanatical fan following was performing as Joanne in the cinematic adaptation of the Broadway musical Rent. Her soaring vocals and sardonic but vulnerable portrayal burned a hole into the minds of music and movie fans alike.
She went on to gain more fans as a cast member in the Robert Rodriguez cult classic Grind House and on the CBS series Cold Case. This happened along side appearances in The Devil Wears Prada, Private Practice, Human Target, Harry's Law, the brilliant I Will Follow (written and directed by friend of the site Ava DuVernay) and even acting as Etta Candy in the never-picked-up Wonder Woman pilot.
She gave us a lively Skype interview on our It's Komplicated webcast and is starring in season two of the web series Bandwagon alongside Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Emma Caulfield, Community actress Yvette Nicole Brown and her own friend, actress Lynn Wactor.
Today is her birthday, and we honor her work and spirit.
