Are you envious of how some guys seem to just roll out of bed and instantly look great? Do you admire how they can just throw on the nearest clothes and still look hot?
We can let you in on their secret.
It’s all a cover.
No-one looks good without putting in a bit of effort. And it can take the most effort of all to look fabulous yet casual.
The way we dress is about much more than fashion. It reveals a lot about your inner self and can be the thing that attracts – or deters – a potential partner. If the way you dress isn’t on point you could be sending out the wrong signals, leaving you sitting at home without a date.
Be Your Own Brand
One of the biggest mistakes to make when you’re trying to figure out what to wear is copying someone else from head to toe. While it’s fine to get inspiration from someone stylish – and don’t we all?! – shamelessly copying their look won’t do you any favors.
When you’re just parroting what you’ve seen elsewhere, there’s a clumsiness to the result. What you should aim for instead is your own twist on what you see.
Think about burger chains for a moment: there are lots of them in the market. They all sell similar products but they each have their own unique identity. The ones that are the most successful are those which don’t just copy everyone else.
Everything you wear should be authentically you. It doesn’t matter whether your style is rocking a pair of super-skinny jeans or staying smart with a sharp shirt. Don’t be distracted by someone else’s brand; wear what is right for you.
Freshen Up Your Wardrobe
The 90s were fun but looking like you’re stuck in a time-warp won’t do you any favors. Even if your look leans more towards classic than on-trend, it’s still a good idea to refresh your wardrobe occasionally.
Macy’s Black Friday sale is an excellent time to update your clothing with a few core pieces. Denim looks great on every guy and is perfect for dates. Macy’s have Lazer denim jeans for just $17.99, a reduction of 62% on their normal price. The straight-leg stretch looks good on every body type and can pair with a tee, a shirt or even a sweater. You can pick these up at Macy’s too with dress shirts from $19.99 and Sun & Stone pullovers less than half price at $19.99 – ideal for a romantic stroll home under the stars.
If you’re more of a Levis guy, you can pick up a pair of Athletic Taper Levis 541s at Kohls from $41.70, another flattering shape and ideal for dates.
You don’t need to spend half your salary on new clothes for your wardrobe, but perking it up with new pieces now and again will make a big difference.
Comfortable is More Than Just Comfort Wear
Who doesn’t like slobbing at home in front of the TV in a pair of sweats? Or perhaps you’re more of a onesie kind of guy? Everyone has their favorite comfort wear for those days when you’re just hanging out at home.
When you’re trying to attract a date, being comfortable is important; watching someone constantly fiddle with their clothing is a major turn-off. That said, there’s a big difference between being comfortable and comfort wear.
Potential partners like to see that you value their company – and that means putting a little effort into your clothing. You don’t need to overdress for the occasion but equally, don’t turn up in your scruffs. There are plenty of alternatives that you can feel comfortable in, while still looking good.
Don’t Forget Your Feet
Even if you’ve gotten your whole look sorted, your feet can give the game away if you’ve forgotten about your shoes.
At the very least you should have a pair of smart shoes, a pair of casual shoes, and ideally a pair of trainers – and make sure they’re clean and mud-free!
Be Confident in Your Body
What looks great on one guy looks terrible on another, so identify your best bits and work with them. Whether you’ve got fantastic shoulders, killer abs or an amazing butt, choose clothing that shows off your body to its best.
If you’ve got hangups about how you look, don’t be tempted to hide behind baggy trousers and oversized T-shirts. It won’t disguise the parts you hate; it will have the opposite effect. Too-big clothing is deeply unflattering on everyone and can signal that you’re not receptive to romantic approaches.
It doesn’t matter what shape or size you are, be confident in your body. You don’t need huge biceps or a washboard stomach to look good; confidence is the sexiest thing you can wear.
Whether you have snake hips, a bootylicious behind or a gorgeous dad bod, there will be plenty of people who love how you look. Yes, really.
In the modern world, individuality and diversity are as hot as hell, so have fun with your clothes and let them speak for who you are.
