We need to consider the Seven R’s of the logistics movement: reduce, recycle, reuse, respect, refuse, respect, rethink and repair.
REFUSE is the first step we need to consider before we even buy anything.
Can we refuse to buy something?
Do we NEED it?
Part of the struggle is the idea we are a consumer society, used to buying things, even if we don’t always need them.
REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE, the viewpoint we are very familiar with and remains a good perspective, but it is just the beginning of what we should consider when we deal with our cultural view of garbage.
REPAIR: we need to consider repairing technology instead of REPLACING it.
This new view is part of the Maker movement as the Do-It-Yourself ideal is slowly replacing the idea of buying new things you don’t need.
RETHINKING our view of technology and products we use and getting companies to take into our view that we should change how we use what we do.
Ultimately, RESPECT, the idea we should respect Nature and our place in the food chain, RECOGNIZING our effect on the world and how we deal with each other and how we can improve our planetary footprint, reducing our carbon use, our garbage creation, and reducing our energy use over the course of our lifetime.
