It’s not often that President Donald Trump makes a move that delights Social, but the online herd is sure happy about this one. Last Thursday the conservation world was stunned when the Trump Administration announced it would allow elephant hunting trophies to be imported from Zimbabwe and Zambia. But on Friday night, Trump announced via Twitter that he was putting that decision on hold, giving Social a reason to cheer. After all, elephant trophies get 81 percent negative sentiments, and public outcry was fierce after the first announcement. The only people pleased initially were big-game groups, and they aren’t getting much sympathy from the Prez, who in a later tweet called elephant hunting a “horror show.” So why allow the imports at all? The Hill pointed a finger at Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and Trump’s sons Eric and Donald Jr., all of whom are avid hunters. Zinke has said in the past that hunters are an important part of the conservationist coalition, but the President isn’t a fan of gunning for big game. “My sons love hunting,” he wrote on Twitter in 2012. “I don’t.” Maybe the public outcry reminded Trump of that. –Hugo Guzman
