Our planet is a wonderful place.
It has so many things to offer, from the cold areas of Antarctica, across the beautiful
landscapes of South America and Africa, to the wonders of Europe and Asia, there isn’t
a single country in the world without amazing things to see.
But we humans tend to destroy what is given to us.
Many of these beautiful places of the world will soon be gone, sometimes due to natural
causes, and others due to our disrespect and neglect.
So, before they’re gone forever, let’s explore them here and, maybe you’ll decide to pay
them a visit.
Stay tuned to number one to find out which one impacts our ability to even remain on
the planet!
Number 10: Amazon Rainforest, Brazil.
No, not the online retail service.
The actual Amazon.
The river basin along the Amazon River has been one of the most fascinating places of
our planet.
And the reason for this is simple…it has everything to offer.
And by everything, we mean…everything!
And the most amazing part of the Amazon is probably its rainforest.
Famously nicknamed “the lungs of the world,” this is one of the oldest parts on earth.
It has been growing for millions of years, and it is a home to numerous species of plants
and animals… plus some tribes which still haven’t been contacted by modern man.
Yup, this place has it all: a third of the planet’s flora and fauna population, uncontacted
tribes and vast areas of natural wonder.
However, it’s disappearing as we speak!
Because of things such as illegal logging, industrial agriculture and mining, the Amazon
of today isn’t what it used to be.
The numbers are staggering!
In the last 40 years, close to one half of the Amazon’s rainforest has disappeared!
So, if you want to visit it, do it fast – because it might not be here soon.
Number 9: Glacier National Park, USA.
This one a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts and hikers in the US.
And it really has a lot to offer!
Like 700 miles of its hiking trails, which are really a thing of beauty.
If one wants to escape and reconnect with Mother Nature, this is a wonderful place for
it.
Unfortunately, though, ill winds have blowing its way for some time now, and Glacier National
Park isn’t what it used to be.
One century ago, this place was an amazing collection of colossal glaciers.
Around 150 glaciers were here to be seen at that time; but now, it’s a different story
altogether.
There are only 25 glaciers left today, and that’s not even the worst news.
Experts have estimated that those glaciers that have survived don’t have a lot to expect
in the years to come, as all of them will be gone in less than two decades.
If you ever want to visit Glacier National Park, now is the time.
Number 8: Congo Basin, Congo.
This place is as important as the Amazon rainforest.
We don’t call it “the lungs of the world,” but we sure could, because it really helps
our planet breathe.
The area itself is huge!
It spans across six countries, and it contributes to the creation of close to 50% of our planet’s
oxygen.
It’s rich in all kinds of ore, wildlife and nationalities.
It has gorillas in the rainforests, buffalo and elephants in the savannas, and the most
wonderful species of fish in lakes and rivers.
However, as peachy as it may sound, the Congo basin is deteriorating at an alarming rate.
There are numerous problems pestering the region, but the biggest ones include illegal
wildlife trade, mining and deforestation.
Experts fear that, if nothing changes, the majority of flora and fauna found in the Congo
basin will disappear over the next 25 years.
Number 7: Southern Patagonian Ice Field, Chile and Argentina
This place is really one of a kind, as it’s the largest body of ice south of the equator.
Well…ummm…other than Antarctica itself.
As the name suggests, the area is literally a field covered in ice, and it’s a magical
place to experience.
But like most places these days, the ice fields are also slowly disappearing.
In the last few years, the vast majority of the glaciers have been shrinking.
And when we say “majority,” we mean over 90%!
Only three glaciers have been measured to indicate growth, while others are getting
smaller and smaller.
If you really want to see something that might be gone overnight…be sure to come to Patagonia
and visit its ice fields.
Number 6: Great Barrier Reef, Australia.
This is one of the most biodiverse locations on the planet, as it’s home to well over 1,500
species of fish, around 600 islands and almost 3,000 coral reefs.
It’s an amazing place to visit, because it has some of the most splendid reefs on the
globe.
The sheer beauty of this place is nothing short of amazing.
But, unfortunately, it’s been greatly diminished.
Over the course of last three decades, the situation has changed for the worst.
Around 50% of the coral coverage has disappeared due to heavy tropical storms, ocean acidification
and coral bleaching.
And if nothing changes in terms of sea temperatures rising and carbon pollution, the whole area
may be lost forever.
Some experts predict that by the year of 2030, the coral reef might lose all of its original
appeal.
Number 5.
Madagascar.
This island country, made famous by the well-known animated movie of the same name, Madagascar
is a truly fascinating place.
Although, we might have to say…it WAS a truly fascinating place.
The old glory days are far behind us, but you still have a chance to experience some
of the original magic of this place.
The flora and fauna found on the island are unique, and there’s a good reason for it.
For millions of years, Madagascar was completely isolated from the rest of the world.
Some 88 million years ago, the chunk which later became known as Madagascar broke off
from Mainland India, and found its place in the south of the Indian Ocean, near the coast
of Africa.
Because of this, numerous species of plants and animals had been developing in total isolation
making 90% of flora and fauna from Madagascar endemic to the region.
Unfortunately, deforestation has been seriously damaging the ecosystem here, and no one knows
what will happen in the years to come.
We recommend that you visit the wonderful island of Madagascar as soon as you can.
Number 4: The Maldives.
What else can you say about this place?
Other than it’s heaven on Earth.
The majestic beauty of the Maldives has captured the imagination of people for years.
Sure, it’s not for everyone, because it’s, well, let’s say…a bit expensive, but it’s
nonetheless an amazing place to spend your vacation.
But the problem Maldives are facing is the rising sea level.
This nation is famous for being one of the lowest nations in the world, because it’s
so close to sea level, and this may well be its undoing.
It is predicted that the entire region of the Maldives will disappear from the face
of the Earth within 100 years.
The rising levels of the ocean will simply swallow it under.
While it’s too bad for the longevity of this gem; the only comfort is that some of us will
visit it while it’s still above water.
Number 3.
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.
This place became famous when Charles Darwin studied there, as it was the Galapagos Islands
that sparked his theory of evolution, kindling his imagination.
The amazing wildlife is really something to see, and over the years, the Galapagos Islands
have become something of a trophy among the tourist community.
It’s on most must-visit lists for travel lovers around the globe.
But unfortunately, the fame of the Galapagos took a turn for the worse in the archipelago,
and nowadays, the situation is bleaker than ever.
More and more tourist resorts are being built, and the oversaturation of artificial settlements
is starting to take its toll on the Galapagos Islands.
As a result of all this, many unique animal species have faced extinction.
If you want to see the natural splendor of this amazing place, go to the Galapagos Islands
as soon as you can, before you lose your only chance.
2.
Venice, Italy The famous Italian city of Venice is well-known
for being a city made on water.
Okay, not exactly “on” water, but on wooden foundations placed in the sea, but you get
the picture.
Venice was nicknamed “the Floating City,” but this is all changing, and the floating
city might soon become “the sinking city.”
In the last one hundred years, the wooden foundations have sunk further down into the
seabed more than one meter, and during this same period…the sea level has risen by one
meter, which means that the whole city of Venice has lost quite a lot in terms of “height.”
Officials decided to try to prevent any further destruction of the city by making a system
of closed water gates.
And, although this project is under way, there are certain experts in the field of climatology
who claim that this simply won’t be enough.
Who knows?
In any case, just to be on the safe side, go and visit Venice as soon as you can.
It’s waiting for you.

Number 1: The Dead Sea, Israel, Jordan & Palestine.
For years, the place has had the name “dead” to it, but it was only a name.
However, nowadays, it’s really starting to die.
Yup, it’s official…we can expect the death of the Dead Sea.
The reason why the Dead Sea is disappearing is a mixture of human and geological factors.
The water level is dropping at an alarming rate.
Well, alarming in terms of geological factors, at a rate of three feet per year.
Now, that might not sound like a lot to you, but believe me…it’s A LOT.
This is causing the Dead Sea to slowly die away, and there’s pretty much nothing we can
do about it.
Except visit it as soon as we can.
So, if you want to float around freely, without the option of sinking, go now.
If you wait too long, all that remains will be nothing but sand.
A whole lot of sand.
Let us know which of these places you’ve visited in the comments below, and take care!
