That’s what was set to happen on Wednesday after a long-simmering lawsuit involving Texas-based Defense Distributed was more or less put to rest. Defense Distributed has created downloadable blueprints for people with sophisticated 3D printers, who can then fully assemble a pistol called the “Liberator,” plus a variety of other guns and gun parts that have no serial numbers and are completely untraceable. The Obama Administration originally stopped Defense Distributed and its creator, Cody Wilson, from publicly posting the “ghost gun” blueprints, and Wilson filed a lawsuit that had gone on for years. But as The New York Times reports, the Trump Administration decided to settle with Wilson (this despite victories for the federal government in lower courts). In classic Trump fashion, the President weighed in on Twitter on Tuesday, hinting at concern about an issue his Administration created: “I am looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public,” he wrote. “Already spoke to NRA, doesn’t seem to make much sense!” More important, on the same day, a federal judge issued a restraining order that will prevent the sale of the blueprints for now. Over the past seven days, “Printed Guns” has a 24 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
