On a day dedicated to the sacrifices of war, Thomas Fiffer presents peace as the ultimate conqueror.
___
Peace.
You feel it.
Like soft snow falling in lamplight.
Or waves lapping gently along the shore.
You find it.
In the simplicity of rhythmic motion.
Or the brilliance of being still.
You seek it.
In the joy of companionship.
And the harmony of love.
You make it.
By agreeing to honor.
And honoring agreement.
You bestow it.
By listening without judgment.
And comforting without agenda.
War is a contest for conquest.
But peace is the ultimate conqueror.
Peace deflates worry and dispels anger.
Peace settles agitation and puts fear to rest.
Peace defeats darkness and celebrates the victory of light.
War brings spoils but peace is the ultimate provider.
Peace sustains us and makes progress possible.
Peace enables us to wake up in the morning with a smiling face, sparkling eyes, and a light heart.
Peace restores dignity, makes whole, and heals.
The word root of peace is fasten, “related to pacisci ‘to covenant or agree.'”
Not just go along with or accept, but actually agree, to come with open arms and open heart to a place of meeting.
Peace is a sacred promise.
