Is there anything more inconvenient than going to use something in your house only to realize that its broken? Some things you can easily work around, but when it comes to a spin mops and their buckets, you need the bucket to be able to do the job. If you don’t have the time to run out and replace it, or replacing it isn’t an option. Don’t worry, we’re here to help.
Identify The Weaknesses In Your Mop Bucket
There is an array of mop buckets out there, but most follow the same principles of mechanics when they are built, so more often than not they have the same failure points. Check over your mop bucket and see if there is anything that jumps out at you that seems wrong. Has the handle of the bucket come off? Is there a foreign item that has become stuck and is stopping the bucket from rotating? Or has the basket come away from the bucket itself and simply needs to be clicked back in? Once you have checked all the most common failure points and still drawn a blank, now it is time to check for the common issues that aren’t so easy to spot.
The Mop Doesn’t Spin When It Is In The Basket
If you have checked over the basket and can’t see anything jamming it, then something else is going on. You need to check the ringer cap on the mop itself, as if this is done up too tight, it wont spin when you press it into the bucket. don’t worry, these are easy to locate. If your mop has two handles, the bottom one closest to the floor has become over tight, which will stop the bucket rotating. Simply grip the lower part of the mop and gently rotate it clockwise.
Broken Peddle
You need the peddle to rotate the basket, without this feature the bucket become, well just that, another bucket. The peddle uses gears to operate and over time, dirt and debris can become embedded in the mechanism that makes the basket rotate. Simply turn the bucket over and you’ll see two screws near the peddle. Gently take off the panel and you’ll be able to see the gears and mechanism that spins the basket. Make sure you don’t detach anything that you see and begin cleaning it out. You’ll be surprised with how much build up you pull out from there. Once you have cleaned out the worst of it, you can then grab some spray oil, such as WD40, and spray some onto the mechanism. Let it sit for a while and then put the cover back on. Once you have done this, gently test the peddle and you’ll feel it start moving.
Detached bucket
Baskets can become easily detached and if it isn’t the clips on the side, it may well be at the bottom where it pivots to rotate. Gently lift the bucket out and have a look if any debris has fallen in this area, if it has, that will stop the basket rotating and it will also force the basket to detach when in use. Simply clean out the dirt and debris from the bucket and the basket and then check it over. You’ll need to make sure that there aren’t any clips that have broken off, otherwise the basket won’t perform. Gently press the basket back into position by resting both of your hands-on top of it. You want to make sure that there is an even spread of pressure over the entire unit, as this will reduce the chances of damaging it.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to mopping your floor, you want to make sure that your spin mop bucket works, otherwise you’ll be left with water everywhere. Thankfully, as they are so simply designed, they are also incredibly easy to fix, so don’t panic. Once you have looked over the unit and seen that nothing is blocking or stopping it, try and work out what issue you are having. From here there are actually very few things that can be wrong with it, at most you are going to have to take off the back panel, but don’t worry, you can have this all done and fixed in under half an hour.
