When you look at the advantages and disadvantages of carpeting compared to laying flooring, there are quite a few. Depending on the place and environment that you are placing this on, will help influence what you place down. Items such as pricing, maintenance, quality, and style will all come into consideration. The actual laying of the wood flooring will also be a consideration on whether you do this yourself (maybe even use click laminate) or you bring in a tradesman or company to take all the hassle away. Here are some considerations to take on board when you are making your decision.
Durability
The lifespan of a carpet depends on a number of things including the quality of the carpet purchased in the first place, the underlay, what environment it is kept in and the upkeep of it. In general terms though, carpets in areas that are used regularly will start to look worn and tired after a few years. If you lay good quality flooring that you can purchase from a wood flooring shop, this could last for over a decade if it is treated with respect. This is probably one of the biggest advantages of having flooring over carpets where upfront it may be a little more hassle but longer term the flooring will last a lot longer.
Maintenance
If you think of how you upkeep a carpet, it will require hoovering on a very regular basis and if you have an accident on it such as a spillage it could be a nightmare to remove. No matter what expensive carpet cleaner you use, there is a real danger that it will leave some sort of stain or remnant. Even when you hoover the carpet excessively, you can then start to see signs of its wear and tear! In terms of the wooden floor, it is a lot simpler. You can still opt to use a hoover to clean the floor but you can also use mops or even a buffer machine to make it look all nice and shiny once more. There isn’t much upkeep required and if you have a spillage it is clearly a lot easier to clean than a carpet!
Price
There is a misconception that flooring is a lot more expensive than carpets. That may be the case however it depends on what type of flooring or carpet it is you are purchasing. There are many carpets out there that are very expensive and there is flooring out there that is really quite cheap. The internet is an awesome source of information and you can browse many different sites that give you great pictures and text. You can also get some specific reviews from others that have purchased that particular type of flooring and what they think about the quality. Do not just jump for the cheapest options as this may be sub-standard. Make sure you do your research online.
Take everything into careful consideration and it won’t be long before you have a beautiful floor in your home.
