If you like to spend time outdoors with your family or friends, a Kamado grill is the perfect way to cook up some tasty meals on a budget. Whether it’s grilling burgers and hot dogs, cooking steaks and chicken, or even smoking meats, these grills are designed specifically for those outdoor activities.
Styles of Kamado BBQ
Kamado BBQ comes in several styles including hibachi, pit, and kettle style. The design of each one varies but they all share common characteristics that include:
- A charcoal firebox (hibachi),
- An open flame firebox (pit style),
- A metal cover over an open flame firebox (kettle style).
The most popular types of kamado BBQs today are the hibachi models which have a small firebox at the top of the grill where the food is placed. Pit Grills usually have an airtight lid so smoke can escape as needed however there is no direct heat source inside, unlike a kettle style. Kettles do not require any external heat source and can be used on a gas or electric stovetop.
Kamado Barbeque Accessories
The accessories needed to use a Kamado Club grill vary depending on what type you have purchased. Most have a few basic accessories such as a cutting board, fork, spatula, etc. Others may have additional features that allow them to also function as a smoker, oven, bread maker, pizza cooker, and more! We will discuss these items individually below.
Cutting Board
A cutting board is essential when using a kamado because it allows you to keep cooked foods separate from raw foods. It’s important to clean the cutting board well before placing anything on it though since the food juices would easily stain a wooden surface. Wooden boards tend to work better than plastic ones since plastic tends to melt under high heat while wood remains solid.
A variety of sizes and shapes are available including square, rectangular, round, oval, and hexagonal. The size should reflect how big your family members are – bigger families need larger boards. Be sure to use a cutting board that has grooves rather than ridges so that your hands don’t get stuck or slip off the board.
Grill Fork & Grill Brush
To clean the grate after grilling, use a long-handled fork to remove excess grease and debris. Make sure there isn’t too much pressure applied to the grate otherwise the edges could break and become damaged. You should never apply too much force when cleaning out the grate and always lift the grate with two hands. If you only have one hand available, make sure the other is positioned behind your back.
To avoid damaging the edges of the grate, take care not to scrape the sides of the grill with the fork. Instead, gently lift the grate into place and press down firmly once the handle has been inserted into the holes located near the edge.
For stubborn spots and stubborn stains, brush the grate thoroughly with a stiff wire brush. Do this by holding the end of the brush between your knees and then pressing down lifting, and scrubbing the grate until the entire surface is shiny and spotless. This step helps prevent blackened areas from forming again.
Basting Brush/Spatula
Basting brushes are great tools to help you season meats during cooking. They come in different styles but all serve their purpose of helping to baste your meat evenly across the cooking surface. Use the same technique described above for cleaning your grill grate to clean the basting tool.
Meat Pans
A set of metal pans called “meat skillets” are generally recommended for easy cleanup and even heating of meats as they are made of cast iron which conducts heat efficiently. Meat skillets are very easy to clean up and are perfect for searing meats quickly over medium heat. These pans have been around for many years and are still being manufactured today. However, if you want something that doesn’t look like it was built in the 1950s, we recommend looking at our stainless steel skillet options instead.
Wooden Spatulas
One of the easiest ways to control temperature on a charcoal grill is with a spatula. To cook perfectly every time, you need to be able to keep the hot coals evenly spaced throughout the grill. A good spatula will allow you to do just that. Wood handles are the most popular style these days. If you’ve got kids, you’ll find that spatulas with non-slip grips are the way to go.
Enjoy using your Kamado BBQ
In conclusion, it’s important for you to enjoy your new grill before it rusts away and becomes unusable. Follow the instructions provided here carefully and ensure that you’re doing everything correctly and safely. Remember to follow safety tips when operating any gas grill or charcoal grill.
