JJ Vincent hopes that this will inspire men to turn on some music and dance.
Have you been told that men don’t dance? That there’s something “unmanly” about it?
I thought this too, for a lot of my life. I grew up in dance companies. The first one was pre-dominantly girls. And by predominantly, I mean there was a girl’s dressing room and a boys bathroom. The second was was closer to a 60/40 split, but it was really a musical theatre group. Lots of tap and Broadway stuff, with no tights or toe shoes in sight. There were few male icons to admire, unless you watched movie musicals (thank you, VHS), or were lucky enough to have parents who might take you to the theatre once in a while. Dance was still, by and large, a feminine pursuit.
I think that’s changing. With dance movies and dance-themed TV talent shows, more people are seeing dance as something everyone can do.
Let these guys show you how.
