The repair process of an electric vehicle station is a task that should be handled only by a professional electrician. Even if you are familiar with the basics of electrical theory, do not attempt to do such repairs by yourself unless you have passed sufficient training and have a relevant qualification.
In this post, we just give a brief picture of what you can expect from EV charging station repair process.
Cause discovering and fixing
The general rule of EV station repair is to start with checking the most common issue and then dig further to discover the root cause.
Typically, half of the issues with electric car stations are related to power or charging cords. So, check these components to prove or refute their blame. For this, successively replace each of the cords with the one you are sure of and check whether the station works as it should or not.
Then, look inside the station to get a clearer picture of the issues and their root cause. To clarify, pay attention to the board. Here are just some EV station components that can be blamed for the station not working:
- Fuses (for example, blown fuses)
- Current transformers (for example, broken insulation)
- Wiring (for example, faulty low-voltage wire, etc.)
When the root cause is discovered (which, by the way, may be more than one), fix it accordingly.
After-repair testing
Each and every repair should be followed by testing the unit’s functioning. And EV charger repair is not an exclusion.
To test EV charger functioning and performance, connect the device to the power supply and plug in an electric vehicle. Below is the list of testing results you shall get:
- A light on the EV station dashboard signals the station is empowered and ready to work
- A charging status light on the electric car dashboard, which, respectively, signals its connected/charging/done state
To sum up, the EV charger repair process requires special knowledge, tools, and relevant qualification. The latter is especially important as only a person of the relevant qualification can ensure your electrical safety when you use the station. So, DIY is not the way to go there. Instead, turn to an engineering company that deals with EV charger repairs.
