Doyin Richards shares photos that truly define fatherhood in today’s society.

Today’s dads are clueless, incompetent, emotionless buffoons who don’t know their asses from their elbows when it comes to childcare, right? Wrong. Dead wrong. The overwhelming majority of us (yes, I said, the overwhelming majority) are smart, loving, and just plain awesome men who put our families first. Don’t believe me? Check out this compilation of photos taken directly from the Daddy Doin’ Work Instagram feed. Contrary to what you’ll find in mainstream media, this diverse group of dads perfectly illustrates what life is really like for fathers all over the world.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then you should prepare yourself for an epic 20,000-word post on modern fatherhood. Enjoy.

And would dads in those days be teaching their daughters to fix cars, use tools etc? In most cases tom, because I was there too, the answer is no. And can you tell me a logical reason why men generally didn’t do pedicures, and why many people would have issues with men in these salons? Do you think we were better than today in that regard? Do you think that’s what really made a man a man? What would make people so afraid of a man taking care of his body and maybe with some paint on his toes anyway?… Read more »
And one other thing, I’ve known a lot of men who allowed their kids to paint their nails. Pedicure? It was simply something men in general didn’t do and many would would have had an issues with men in these salons.
Now would you find them taking pictures with a phone. What you would see are dad’s with their kids showing them how to work on a car, how to use tools. You’d see dad’s teaching their sons how to shave, and countless photos of dads with their kids at the ball park, camping, fishing, hunting in the pool teaching them how to swim ….. Many years ago I learned how to use my wife’s curling iron because of the hatchet job the salon did on my daughters hair and I needed to fix it before mom got home. I guess… Read more »
Tom, while I have no doubt that fathers have always loved their children and did the best for them they could, I do not think that many fathers back in the day would be putting make-up on their daughter’s faces, get pedicures with them or let their daughters paint their nails. Yes, fathers have always loved their kids. Yes, fathers have always made sacrifices for their kids. But no, their roles 40 years ago were not the same as what we see emerging today. We see more dads, more open, to less traditional interactions with their kids. And we see dads… Read more »
Doyan, the only issue I have with this is that you made this a “modern” father theme. And in part, this is a problem in today’s society in that it’s ignored the fact that these photos could have been taken 40+ years ago. Nonetheless, thank you for sharing them.
