As you get older, your bond with your grandparents gets a little discrete because you gradually get occupied with your own life and fulfill your targets like education, career, marriage and other milestones. However, if you put in a little effort and diligence, you can still enjoy a healthy relationship with your grandparents. I am going to talk about a few ways that can help you strengthen this bond:
Keep them Updated
With the increasing popularity of texts, talking on the phone has become less common because people feel more comfortable with SMS and video messaging. It’s recommended to call your grandparents regularly and keep them updated on significant events so they are aware of the happenings in your life. It gives them a feeling of closeness and be a part of your life. Let them know the important things in your life like a new job, shifting to a new place, or your kid’s new activity or achievement.
Invite them to Important Events
Make sure you invite them to important events and activities like on your birthday celebration, graduation ceremony or your housewarming party. Moreover, do not forget to invite them to their favorite concert or on a book reading event. Grandparents would love to contribute to family events, so make sure you keep them posted about planned occasions. Do let them know in advance, so they can make relevant preparations.
Visit Their Place
If your grandparents live nearby, make it a habit to visit them often with gifts they would like. A home cooked meal, a nice book, and roses make a great gift. When at their place, give them a helping hand in their chores like cleaning up the yard, planting flowers, washing the car, or cooking a meal together. Indulge in interesting activities that you think they would find exciting and have fun doing them together. This will let your grandparents understand you care and want to spend quality time with them.
Acknowledge their Love
“You’re a great dad!”. It is probably the best compliment a father can have. When you can express your affection for your parents, why not show it to your grandparents as well. Acknowledge their love and support by sending Thank You messages, Christmas Cards, and appreciating their gifts by calling them or sending emails exhibiting your respect and affection for them.
Ask them Questions
When looking for an answer or a solution to your problem, it’s wise to ask someone with a huge experience and knowledge. No one would be more knowledgeable in worldly matters than your grandparents; after all, they raised a family and survived through thick and thin. Ask them about anything bothering you and discuss your problems. You will definitely benefit from their handy suggestions and solutions. This will also give them a feeling of being valued for their insightful feedback.
