Making space through time
This past week, I accepted a job offer and tendered my resignation from my current employer. In my industry, a two-week notice is courteous, but the corporation is quick to show you the door once you hand over your letter, especially when going to a competitor. Nothing personal, just procedural.
This was all a huge blessing, because I don’t start at my new company until mid-May. I am in a bona fide state of limbo, and I couldn’t be happier. My history of changing jobs in the past has been like so: leave on a Friday, start the new gig the following Monday.
This time, however, I knew I needed a break between jobs, if anything for health and sanity. Ending seven years at my previous employer required a “cooling off” period. Decompression. Or would it be a detox?
Whatever this little phase is, I’m going to enjoy it with relish. We took our Bugs Bunny calendar off the fridge and labeled the next two weeks, “Blue Sky.” We wrote in all those things we’ve been wanting to do, but have been putting off. Massage, yoga class, donut taste testing, beach day, strawberry picking. No meetings, no deadlines. No one to report to. We’re going moment to moment. We’re making some much needed space in our lives, for once.
