The History of Memory is a series of short documentary films created by Redglass Pictures and the Garage by HP, which celebrates the power of printed photographs to change our lives.
From Florida to India, Beijing to New Orleans, HISTORY OF MEMORY explore stories of real people whose lives were forever altered by the discovery, creation, or preservation of a photograph.
The documentary is divided into four distinct chapters, each celebrating the power of printed photographs to change lives.
In “At First Sight,” a deep, lifelong connection is made across continents after the exchange of two images.
A woman discovers her true self in “A Secret Album” after uncovering a hidden family photo album.
In “It’s a Boy” an adopted son gets the newborn photos he never had.
“China Lost and Found” shows how the memories of an entire generation were saved from destruction by a French photo archivist digging through the trash.
In each chapter of HISTORY OF MEMORY, we are reminded that the most important memories are those which we cherish, share, and protect.
Together they created Redglass Pictures in 2008 and since then have co-directed and produced many notable projects, including the New York Times short, Miracle on 22nd Street, which was recently optioned by Tina Fey and Universal Pictures, a series of shorts for the Ken Burns PBS project The Emperor of Maladies, which won a DuPont Award, and a four-part video installation on Vietnam for the New York Historical Society.
Klein and Mason have had the honor of interviewing: The Obamas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, John Kerry, Michael Chabon and JJ Abrams to name a few. Klein’s early credits include the HBO documentary Hard as Nails and the Arte film The Good Mother.
