Question: I can’t seem to find my calling, my niche, my passion. I am working as a bank teller, which pays the bills, but I hate going to my job every day. I envy those who love what they do. How can I become more like those people?
Answer: I’m so glad you reached out about this… Because a man who’s not living his calling or purpose or doing something that brings him joy and aliveness is a living death… Not to mention completely not sexy! And if you’re at the point where your envying others that’s actually creating separation and distance between solid friendships in your life as well. I’m so glad you had the brilliance and courage to reach out 🙂
Let’s move toward your calling and passion not so that you can be like other people who love their job, but simply because you deserve it, you can do it, and you’re ready to find your courage and let go of good for great.
I don’t believe you’re calling or passion is a job title, I believe it’s an essence or energy or a feeling you get when you’re having a peek life experience, or when you lose all track of time, or when you feel you’re in the zone with your gifts and talents. It has to do with being alive, turned on, delighted, and enlivened. It has to do with what you value and what brings you joy and what you look forward to.
Sometimes one of the reasons why we are not living are calling our passions is because were trying to play it safe, be logical, follow the rules, not rock the boat with what your parents might say. Sometimes it’s because you’ve never developed grit, the capacity to fall down get back up again, the capacity to stand in the face of other people’s disapproval and keep going, the capacity to choose a direction or target and not give up until you get there… Or better 🙂
Sometimes what’s in the way it’s a deep disconnection to one’s self worth, I believe that you’re not good enough, I believe that everybody else gets to be happy but you don’t, I believe that you’re somehow broken or faulty or not wired for success.
And sometimes it’s all of those reasons! Holy shit, yes? It can be an intense Road finding your calling and purpose… Yet there is no more noble and where the path of self-discovery then showing up in the world being yourself and doing what is true for you in the face of any circumstance and in the face of anybody’s opinion. It makes for the feeling of deep resilience and confidence and love of self and eventually… Feeling like the universe really is on your side and has been the whole time.
Before taking the leap and trying something else that may or may not work out, I wouldn’t want you to put a Band-Aid on a whim and it’s only going to sabotage you again. I think it would be more officiant and lasting in terms of success to slow down and do some in our work on first whatever’s blocking you and second, reconnecting to your inner truth and I live in us.
Being in a coaching relationship over 2 to 3 months with me would allow you to do the inner work yet also get out on the court and begin exploring different job options from a very deep centered certain place of clarity. It’s kind of like if you had a living room… We don’t want to simply rearrange the furniture, we want a whole new damn living room! You can literally create anything you want! Not just an improvement, yes?
Lastly, it’s worth doing the inner work so that you find your calling and are happy to get up every morning because it’s deeply attractive to a quality woman and elicits her respect and honor and devotion…
One of the elements of my calling as a spiritual counselor and coach/healer is to believe in my client even when they don’t… To watch their dreams be for filled… To watch them feel home in their skin and alive in their jobs and relationships… Free in their self expression and deeply humbled and proud of their courage.
