Motivation is the set of reasons for acting and behaving in specific ways. These reasons cause us to have the feelings and thoughts that create the impulse and desire for us to act. When we take action towards fulfilling our dreams, we increase the chances of them coming true.
External reasons typically stimulate motivation. Listening to a speaker, reading a book, or watching a movie may move you. When you take action close to the motivating experience, you are more likely to, ultimately, achieve your goals.
Many of us leverage motivation to our advantage, acting on it as quickly as possible. Motivation seems to come with a predetermined expiration date, however, that is not forgiving. If we don’t act in a timely manner, the impulse and desire to succeed could pass.
So, if you want to increase the likelihood of making your dreams come true, follow these three simple habits below:
1. Listening to Music Elevates Emotions
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” — Plato
Numerous research studies have shown that emotions elevate, while you listen to certain types of music. When you listen to classical or instrumental soundtracks, for example, hormones in your brain become stimulated that can lead you to greater levels of motivation. In no uncertain terms can one underestimate the impact of classical and instrumental music on your mood on mood and performance enhancement.
When you hear your favorite song, it can immediately drive you to dance or sing along. In many cases, you are relating the music to fond, positive memories from past experiences. Such a scenario can mean the actions you take, in some cases, can become more impulsive rather than intentional.
When your attention falls upon your own impulsive behaviors, you are on the way to making them intentional and, eventually, positive habits, leading you to develop the habits that will enable you to make your dreams come true.
2. Reading Books Creates Curiosity
“The place between your comfort zone and your dream is where life takes place.” —Helen Keller
Reading positive and motivational books can create some powerful paradigm shifts. The motivational messages they share can make you believe that you can have the same outcomes that lie contained within their pages. Many motivational authors share the ways in which they realized their dreams. When you read about other people’s journeys of success, you may believe you could do the same thing. This intersection of motivation and confidence is a powerful juncture for most people seeking achievement and fulfillment.
Some of you reading this article may fear to go for what you want, stopping before you even get started. For you, it may be helpful to have the support of a courage partner, also known as a “motivational author.” A courage partner has already achieved the outcome you desire and seeks to readily share their journey and wisdom with you to facilitate your own goal attainment.
These individuals are plentiful and accessible, which makes them an ideal ‘courage partner’ for many of us, who want to learn from them and emulate their habits. Some of us may feel more confident about taking action when we know that someone has already blazed the trail ahead of us. Motivation and confidence increase when we see that others have done something that we aspire to do in our own lives.
3. Mentoring Influences Mindset
“The more you are motivated by love, the more fearless and free your action will be.”
—Dalai Lama
Mentoring is an excellent way for some of us to see what is possible for ourselves. Mentors have the experience and successes that we want for ourselves and we know that we can learn from them. Mentoring is a powerful motivational tool that can be used when we determine that the reasons for wanting to do something are bigger than our excuses.
Mindset is closely linked to mentoring because you can make a mind shift based on some piece of wisdom that a mentor shares with you. Many of us will have to overcome our preconceived ideas about habits. Mentors can support us in developing new ways of looking at these behaviors before we can accept forming them.
Mentoring and mindset can be powerful drivers for those of us who want to make our dreams come true. The connection between the two is best demonstrated in our drive to get things done that will get us closer to the outcomes we seek. Linking these things with motivation is the way that we can differentiate ourselves. This is an especially important concept. While we may have good intentions to do certain things, we may find more reasons for not doing them.
When any of us falls victim to the excuses and stories that rob us of our motivation to take action, we are left with nothing more than the abstractness of our feelings, thoughts, and dreams. We can become depressed and isolate ourselves when we see that our aspirations will not be realized. These three ways of acting to make a dream come true are an excellent antidote.
