This could be the best year of your life or the same as every other year. This man says overcoming these roadblocks could make all the difference.

Sometimes the chaos of life gets in the way of the things we really want to focus our time and energy on. Life is short, and time is the one thing we’ll never get back. We know this in our mind, but too often it takes a tragic event to make this clear to us.

The New Year brings the excitement of new possibilities. Maybe this will be the year we finally make all those changes and chase those big dreams. We know the stats on New Year’s resolutions, but we can beat the stats.

Again, it’s not going to happen overnight, but this can be the year that you take the first step.

There are some situations that guys experience in life that are difficult to overcome or will take time. I get that. There are some situations that will never be overcome. There are however, roadblocks that can and should be overcome. Here are roadblocks that guys can overcome when they’re ready.

1. A bad work situation

Every guy is allotted 168 hours in a week and most of us spend 40 of those hours in some sort of work situation. It can be in a job you love or hate, or in a business you love or hate. Either way, how you spend those hours has an undeniable effect on the rest of your hours.

Finding or creating work you love is possible with a plan and time. If you wish to land your dream, the Internet makes it possible to research what it will take. If your dream is to become an entrepreneur, opportunities are all around us. The point being, you can do something about a bad work situation. Again, it’s not going to happen overnight, but this can be the year that you take the first step.

2. An unhealthy lifestyle

Living a healthy lifestyle goes far beyond dieting and weight loss. For 12 years I struggled with my weight. In the last year and a half I’ve lost 170 pounds. The weight loss came when I realized every choice I made about food and exercise had to support living a healthy lifestyle.

When you make this a part of your life, you won’t worry about breaking a diet. You wake up and make decisions that support what you want your life to be. You can lose weight over time, even a significant amount. Take this one-day at a time and keeping going, even when you slip up. Realize that a slip up doesn’t mean you failed, learn from it and make choices that support living each day healthy.

3. Toxic relationships

Love can make us feel incredible or like we just got slapped in the face. There are things we can work through in a relationship, but sometimes our issues are beyond repair. Once you reach that point, the relationship can be toxic to your state of mind and eventually your health.

I can’t tell you at what point you should end things; I can tell you that even though it hurts, you have to get honest with yourself. Toxic relationships can be love interests, friends, or even family members. Whoever it is, when things turn toxic, they will affect your life one way or another. It will be difficult, but you can overcome it and thrive.

4. Living life on autopilot

It’s easy to coast through a good enough life. Hell, it’s far more comfortable than the hard work of losing weight, ending toxic relationships, or getting a better work situation. At the end of our lives we won’t remember all the stuff we had, we’ll remember our experiences.

We should never settle in life. There’s too much to do, see, and experience.

What will those experiences be for you? Taking the road less traveled is scary and chances of experiencing failure are pretty strong, but the possibilities are worth the risk. Choose your dreams over living life on autopilot and you’ll live a life too many guys only dream of living.

5. Accepting complacency

We should be grateful for all that we have in life. If you’re reading this that means you’re alive. That’s reason enough to smile. Being grateful is not the same as being complacent and there’s a real danger in using one as a cover for the other.

We should never settle in life. There’s too much to do, see, and experience. Variety is the spice of life and what makes life exciting. Never stay complacent if you can help it. If you have the chance to do or chase an extraordinary dream, do it. Keep striving to reach every goal and dream in your heart and then set bigger and scarier ones.

Some guys have to overcome incredible struggle to even get to the place of surviving. There are many though, that can take action on the life they really want. If you have the opportunity, chase your dreams this year and make those big changes you’ve been putting off.
