I was raised in the capital of Lithuania – Vilnius. So, I decided to take a motorbike journey across the Balkans. First, I decided to Shave my head. It’s much more convenient and hygienic to ride long distances if you shave your head.
Riding through the Balkans was about a lot of open space. I love open space! I also like being alone from time to time, but by the end of this trip I felt a little bit lonely, because I didn’t have the chance to have deep conversations with anyone throughout the trip.
Before starting the trip I didn’t have an exact route – I just wanted to drive through all Balkan countries. The route ended up being Lithuania – Poland – Czech Republic – Austria – Slovenia – Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro – Albania – Greece – Macedonia – Kosovo – Serbia – Romania – Hungary – Slovakia – Poland – Lithuania. I didn’t think a map was necessary and riding without it would let me discover new places I would not have discovered otherwise. And that’s indeed true!
The Asian hospitality that I’ve become so used to throughout the years doesn’t quite compare with the Balkans, but the Balkan people seemed nice.
I think this whole trip was one big, life changing experience that I took away from there. The fact that I was driving so much across so many ever-changing landscapes, towns and cities.
