A Dysfunctional America

America, this is our time. This can be our finest hour. This is a call to unite, regardless of race, political ideology, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs.

Let’s talk, America. Before you grab the closest bashing bat, hear me out.

Have we lost our ever loving minds? Seriously? Think about something with me for a moment. Think about the name: The United States of America. How long before someone suggests we rename our country to The States of America? Was that offensive? We aren’t united folks.

We used to be known for innovative minds, compassionate people, and diversity. Now, we are known for so much less. Americans are literally offended by everything said or done by anyone. We are no longer a united nation. Argue with me differently, with valid, satiable points, and I may be swayed. Until then, my opinion of a severely divided America stands.

We don’t have to agree with each other on every point. We also don’t have to destroy each other when we disagree.

It’s political divisiveness. Most of the time, it is the Republicans versus the Democrats or Conservatives versus Liberals. It’s the media generating conspiracies versus everyone who continues to tune in because they have nothing better to do.

It’s blacks versus whites versus Latinos and straights versus gay.

It’s diversity versus traditional, it’s my way versus your way.

At what point in America’s lifespan did we become the pansies? Where in the timeline of American history will those who come after us look and pinpoint, “Oh, that’s where my ancestors screwed it all up!” Listen, it’s time we as men grow some testicular fortitude and quit being so offended by everything.

What makes us great is the diversity from the very fiber of who we are. The lives of every person in every state matter. We are all granted the opportunity to succeed, but it requires work. Somewhere along the way someone thought it wise to indoctrinate others with the idea that the government or society “owed” them a guaranteed future of success and leisure. No one owes us anything. Period.

We can’t have a decent debate without the effects of Hollywood, media influence, or some type of dramatic inclusion. We cannot have a disagreement between people without someone yelling like a maniac or someone physically harming someone else. The value of human life, well, is rapidly approaching the extinct status. The value of human life, to some, is the equivalent of an empty soda can.

When more people show up to a holiday sale than they do for an election, we have a problem.

We care more about what people think of our social media profiles, our outward appearance, or even our social life, than we do the future of our country. When more people show up for a special holiday sale than show up to vote, we have a problem. It’s a societal problem. It’s a problem rooted as far back as we can go in recent years. It’s an education problem, it’s a media problem, it’s a family problem, it’s a political problem. Bottom line: It’s our problem. It is not the responsibility of the government to tell you if you can marry someone, or how to live safely.

It shouldn’t require legislation to tell you how you can love or who you can love, and it shouldn’t require legislation to tell us how to treat each other.

Have we lost our minds, America?

How much farther will we dwindle from the fiber of who we are? Did we need government intervention in healthcare, gun control, or heaven forbid, soda tax?

How much more will we wallow in apathy before the liberty we have enjoyed is disintegrated?

So you don’t like a politician? I ask you, did you vote? If you did, become more involved. Don’t sit on the couch with apathetic attitudes and complain on social media without taking action. You can contact through email, telephone, or written letters, your politicians for your area. Tell them your opinion.

Attend a debate. Get involved in your community. Agree to disagree. Let the majority vote, and whoever wins, wins.

I love my country. I am saddened by the current state of affairs and we should all be concerned. Threats to our homeland are not new, but we live in a different age, now. We will only be victorious over an international threat through one united effort.

This is a call to unity, Americans. This is a call to set aside our differences, grab our fellow citizens arm in arm, and join as one.

This is our finest hour. This is how history books will define us. Will we unite as Americans once again, for the country we love?

I am not waving a flag of partisan political influence, nor am I asking you to agree with me on every, or any, point. I am asking you for the future of our homeland, our country, The United States of America, to wake up, and join each other.

Will you spread hope, liberty, and freedom? Will you refute fear, embrace the America we all love, and help bring her back to greatness?

This is our time to shine, America. It’s time to Unite.
